Jason Menor is a cinematographer specializing in creating evocative content with an undeniable heart. He worked full time as a wedding filmmaker in the Cayman Islands for a year and a half creating handcrafted destination wedding films for couples that loved the sun and sea. He has also filmed weddings in his hometown, Virginia, and has traveled to destinations ranging from New York to Idaho to Cancun, Mexico. Apart from weddings, he has produced mini documentaries and short films with that nostalgic-blurry-light-flaring beauty that sends the images straight to the heart.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long have you been doing this?
I started editing video when I was 12. After school, I’d beg my mom to let me use the computer to edit. I shot my first paid wedding at 14, and got $400 for it. I’m 15 now, so you do the math 😉
Can I afford you?
That question really flatters me. I guess as with almost anything – you get what you pay for. But with that said, I am much more affordable than the competition. Please write me an email and I’ll gladly send you my wedding pricing sheet.
What sets you apart from other wedding videographers?
I put my heart into my work. Both during the shoot and the edit, I think about the couple and their friends and family. I try to make the film “feel” like them. I strongly dislike the one-size-fits-all approach with wedding videos. I keep my heart and mind open to who you are, and tailor my work accordingly while still maintaining my signature style that you hired me for.
Do you travel?
Yes. Just get me a plane ticket and a hotel room! Outside the USA, I’ve shot weddings in the Cayman Islands, Cancun, and the Philippines. Still waiting for a couple to take me to Europe.
Why do you book only a few wedding per year?
Firstly, it allows me to really personalize each film. I’m like a devoted dog breeder as opposed to a puppy mill. Quality > Quantity.
Secondly, I live my life as a volunteer teaching people about the Bible. That’s my priority and that’s what occupies most of my schedule.
Are you a brother?
Yes. And yes, I’m not the only child so I am also that kind of brother.
How do you go about choosing the music for your films?
Let me first say that music is SO important to me. I spend so much time searching for the right songs. I can’t really edit your film until I find the “one.” Or “two” ’cause there’s usually more than one song.
Copyright laws are strict, so I can’t simply use any song. I use awesome websites to license songs specifically for your wedding film. It’s the legal and safe way to do it and it supports the great artists behind the songs too.
